R.I.P Dexter Dog

DEXTER
Nov 1996~July 2010

Our buddy, Dexter left us on Monday, July 5th. He was an old dog and we knew that someday we would have to face not having Dex with us. But we just weren't ready for it to be this soon.

Dex thought he was a lap dog. Tim had just sat down and Dex crawled up on his lap! (pardon the messy room..we had just taken up the carpet so we could refinish the floor)

Dex loved the snow. We remember when we moved from Texas to New York and Dex first experienced snow! It was so funny to see him walk in snow for the first time.
Even as an old dog this past Winter, Dex still loved walking in the snow.

Up until a few months ago, Dexter loved to run out to get the newspaper and bring it in the house..He was a true Retriever!

Paper boy Dexter!

Dexter and his best pal, Tim.

We Loved you Dex. You were the best puppy. The memories we have of you make us smile even though we want to cry. See you again, Buddy!

Oh Patti, I am so sorry for your and Tim's loss. I know exactly what you are going through as it was just this past February I lost my little Katie. I'm sure Katie was waiting there at the gate of Rainbow Bridge for Dexter to arrive and they are having a much fun running around as two pups could ever have!

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

My heart breaks for you.....My Sasha(lhasa-apso) crossed the Rainbow Bridge after 16 years and my Snickers after only 3 short months.....loosing one's beloved pet is never easy....but close your eyes and there you will see Dexter in your heart where he will remain forever.
Hugs to you both,
Lynn

I'm sorry to hear about your Dexter - it's always hard to lose our pets even tho we know it's time. I think he had a wonderful life - many years of happiness with you guys. Labs are the best - we lost our Jake about a year ago. It was tough. Thinking about you...

It is so hard to lose a pet. They are one of the family but we can always take comfort in knowing that
while they were with us, they were loved and that we made their lives happy and content just as they did for us.

Patti, your post made me cry, both happy and sad tears. When we lose a beloved family member who gives us nothing but love and happiness it hurts. I am remembering Annie this morning, we lost her 3 years ago last Christmas. Labs make the most wonderful friends.

I never thought after Annie I would feel love for another dog the way we did about her, but after Christmas that year we added Indy to our family and while she is nothing like Annie she brings the same love to our family.

This past Feb after we moved into a bigger house with a huge 1/3 of an acre yard we felt it was time to add another lab to the family. So along came Sammie.

Think about adopting a dog when the time is right for your family. All the love we have for our dogs who have past, can be give to a new family member.

Annie is never far from my heart and memories of her bring both tears and laughter, I wouldn't have it any other way. Hugs to your family today.

Patti, my heart goes out to you and Tim. I know how hard it is to lose a pet. They are your children, best friend and loyal no matter what. I guess that is why DOG spelled backwards is GOD.

Prim Blessings always,
Jean

Thanks for sharing your photos and sweet memories of Dex. So many of us have experienced that same love and loss. It looks like he lived the life all dogs deserve.
